18 Days to L’Étape. On the training schedule: The first of two travel days, after missing my workout last night due to a crush of work that had to get done before I leave the home office for training camp.
Looking at a set of photos on Flickr, apparently taken last week, during an earlier session of the training camp in the Alps that I’m attending this weekend, I’m glad I’ve got a mix of warm-weather and cold-weather gear in the suitcase.

Travel industry insiders applauded government officials and major car rental firms for coming to an agreement to drastically reduce refueling charges. Douglas F. Gansler, attorney general of Maryland, had begun probing rental car refueling fees earlier this year and found that some companies had significantly increased their fees, far exceeding gas prices. The accord calls for the companies to bring the charges more in line with the price of fuel.

Kashgar, China, June 18 Kyodo - The Olympic torch relay passed through the mainly Muslim region of Xinjiang for a second day Wednesday, amid massive security.
Only spectators with permits were allowed to watch the event and people living along the route were told not to go out and to close their windows and curtains.
Security officials were deployed about every 5 metres as the torch was run through the streets. At least one man who tried to watch the relay without a permit was arrested by police.
Chinese security officials say they have broken up at least three terrorist plots organized by Muslim separatists in Xinjiang this year, although exiled Muslims from the region say the terrorist threat has been exaggerated to justify tighter security and Chinese government control.

Atlanta (June 5, 2008) — More than 1,100 government travel professionals, including over 800 travel managers, or buyers, filled the Marriott Marquis in downtown Atlanta this week, attending the 2008 National Travel Forum. The conference, hosted for the first time by the National Business Travel Association (NBTA) and its Government Travel Group (GTG), opened Tuesday evening with a reception and continues through Friday.
Recognized as the largest and most important event for the government travel community, the National Travel Forum features experts from the General Services Administration (GSA), the Defense Travel Management Office and the Department of Defense, and brings together representatives from many branches of the federal government, as well as states across the country.
